Dozens of bus riders in the Kingston area have had their commutes upended, getting less than two weeks’ notice that their service from a local shopping plaza would be eliminated.
The Plymouth & Brockton commuter bus has been stopping at a corner of the Kingsbury Square plaza on Summer Street for at least two decades, where riders could also park for free. But in late September, they learned the plaza’s owner was putting a Starbucks on the location of the bus stop, followed by Plymouth & Brockton’s prompt announcement it was canceling the Kingston service.
“It was incredibly short notice,” said Chris de Roetth, a Duxbury resident who has taken the bus from Kingston to Boston for more than 20 years. “It’s really disappointing and actually shocking. It’s part of the fabric of our commuting community and now it’s being taken away.” (read more)
